My philosophy

Life is bittersweet.

In my experience, life’s journey can be marked by relatively easy and low-lying terrain as well as some rough and tricky twists and turns.

There are seasons when life throws us curve balls, leaving us confused and crushed.  We can feel knocked back and our sense of purpose diminished.

Yet as a fellow traveller, I believe that with the right kind of support and over time we can slowly arise, gather our broken pieces, and even discover beauty and depth from the toughest experiences.

My story

Before I entered the world of psychotherapy, I worked in the corporate world of finance and accountancy in my home country in South Africa.  After that I embarked on a long journey of a career change, which lasted over a decade.  The journey brought me to the UK, and the search led me to work in the charity sector before I eventually embarked on my training as a psychotherapist and counsellor.  Although psychotherapy is my second career, I see it as more than that.  It feels more like my purpose in life.  It is a career that is born out of my own difficult journey of searching and becoming.

My experience

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced”
James Baldwin

As part of my psychotherapy and counselling journey, I have gained clinical experience in a variety of settings, including Mind, Care for Carers, NHS Talking Therapies and Greenwich Student Counselling Services.

Since obtaining my masters qualifications in 2020, I continue to work for NHS Talking Therapies, as well as my own Private Practice.

For me, the reality of life and the process of talking therapy is summed up in this simple and yet profound quote by James Baldwin: “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced”

The way I work

I offer intercultural and integrative psychotherapy/counselling, drawing from relational, psychodynamic, transpersonal, person-centred theories and culturally sensitive therapies.

In everyday language, this means you are empowered to discover solutions to issues in a supportive environment that is sensitive to the inner and outer influences in your life.  As a counsellor, I offer you my empathy, honesty and respect while we explore issues you feel you would like to bring to counselling at the times that we have agreed.
